Death Valley National Park

I find sand dunes absolutely fascinating to photograph, the possibilities are endless. Wind changes the shapes and forms of the dunes, the light moves across the dunes creating soft to dramatic contrast in the sand. This particular area of Death Valley National Park is one of my favorite areas, it’s remoteness can leave you feeling like your all alone in the world. Watching the sun rise and light dance across the largest dune in California and possibly all of North America all by myself was an incredible experience.

What the guidebooks don’t tell you is that the desert is absolutely freezing in the morning during the winter season, especially at 3,000ft elevation at this location. On this particular morning it was 28 degrees out, somehow it felt much colder than that.

I hope you enjoy this image as much as I did creating it.
