Along the La Jolla coastline, Bird Rock stands as a familiar landmark, often overlooked amid the rhythm of daily life. On this morning, a dense marine layer blanketed the coast, softening the horizon until sea and sky became one. The conditions I’d long waited for—a rare combination of fog and low tide—finally came together, allowing me to create this black and white fine art photograph of one of San Diego’s most iconic coastal scenes.
Through a long exposure, the movement of the water blended seamlessly with the mist, giving the scene its quiet, ethereal quality. Subtle traces of motion from the cormorants add a delicate sense of life to the otherwise still composition, a reminder that even within calm, the world continues to move. This fine art print captures the serene beauty of the Southern California coast on a morning when patience, timing, and nature aligned perfectly.
