Joshua Tree has a way of slowing me down. Nowhere is that more true than among the granite formations of Jumbo Rocks. The scale, the shapes, the way the boulders seem to stack and lean into one another, it feels less like geology and more like gesture.
This small arrangement caught my attention as I moved through the rocks. Three boulders appear to lean inward, facing a few resilient bushes growing directly from the granite surface below. Nothing dramatic. No sweeping vista. Just form, balance, and space quietly working together.
I’ve always loved photographing Joshua Tree’s rock formations. They feel ancient and expressive at the same time, sculpted by time yet full of subtle personality. The longer I spend among them, the more I begin to notice these natural compositions that seem to exist on their own terms.
This image is part of my ongoing series The Art of Nature, focused on naturally occurring arrangements shaped entirely by the landscape itself. I am not constructing a scene. I am simply recognizing one.
