Eastern Sierra Mountains, California

Every year, for our wedding anniversary, my wife and I celebrate by embarking on a multi-day backpacking trip deep into the backcountry. Fortunately, the Eastern Sierra Mountains, some of the most stunning in the world, are just a few hours' drive from our home in San Diego. In July of 2023, we set out on an adventure into a section of the John Muir Wilderness that had long been on my bucket list.

2023 turned out to be a record-setting year for snowfall in the Eastern Sierra, and it left us in awe as we encountered vast amounts of snow and navigated challenging water crossings throughout our journey. Originally, our plan was to trek to a higher lake located about two miles further along the trail. However, when I caught sight of Temple Crag majestically presiding over the second lake, I knew we had found the perfect camping spot for the next few nights.

Being enveloped by such natural beauty for several days was an absolutely incredible way to celebrate our anniversary, and I'm already eagerly anticipating next year's adventure.

I hope you enjoy this image as much as I did creating it.
