Vast - Rugged - Beautiful, Those are three words that come to the front of my mind when I think about Kyrgyzstan. Photography has opened many doors and allowed me many experiences I most likely would never have had without a camera in my hand. In August of 2023 I was fortunate to visit Kyrgyzstan for 11 days of photography and exploration. Prior to this trip I had never heard of this unbelievably beautiful country, let alone thought I would ever visit this part of the world. When the opportunity for this trip presented itself I could not say no. Kyrgyzstan is hands down one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited, the majority of the country is very remote, rugged and hard to get to meaning few people go. The area I was able to create this image is no exception, it took hours bouncing around in a 4x4 jeep to reach this view. Adyr Tor looming in the background is a 19,000 foot peak in the Tian Shan mountain range, meaning Heavenly Mountains or Mountains of Heaven. Being able to see these incredible mountains with my own eyes, I can absolutely understand why they were named so. This four and a half minute exposure gave me plenty of time to soak in the silence and beauty of this sunrise.
